Dr. Betty Price envisioned a community restored to the vibrant, thriving place she remembered as a young girl—a neighborhood filled with opportunity, dignity, and vitality. Her vision began with the Vermont Corridor, between Florence and Manchester, and sought to rebuild it into a vital and viable community where families and businesses could flourish. She imagined a community with decent restaurants, quality grocery stores, accessible medical care, safe recreational spaces, and businesses that truly meet the needs of residents.

Her dream extended beyond just buildings and storefronts. She saw a renewed spirit—an atmosphere of hope, prosperity, and safety that would inspire pride among residents. Dr. Betty believed that if revitalization began here, on Vermont Avenue, it could ultimately extend from Normandie to the Harbor Freeway between Florence and Manchester, and serve as a model for other communities across Los Angeles County to follow.

Today, Vermont Village Community Development Corporation (VV-CDC) carries forward this vision, working to transform the Vermont Corridor into a hub of opportunity and resilience. By fostering economic growth, expanding access to quality health and social services, and promoting community-led solutions, VV-CDC is restoring the foundation Dr. Betty laid while building pathways for future generations. Her vision continues to guide and inspire efforts to create a healthier, safer, and more prosperous urban village for all.
